I think if there's eczema in the family it's best to wait as long as possible, not before 6 months anyway. Just start with baby rice then move on to root veges and fruit.

someone else might know more, i haven't even started weaning bean yet, although I have bought a bib and a spoon!

Hi - I have eczema, asthma, hayfever, rhinitis and some (non-anaphylactic) nut allergies, so thought quite carefully about all this when weaning dd (who is now 2.3).

Best advice is to exclusively breastfeed till 6 months if at all possible. Then when weaning introduce one food at a time and check for any possible reactions.

I sort of followed a book by Suzanne Olivier called "What should I feed my baby" as she has good advice on all this, whereas most baby food books, like Annabel Karmel gaily chuck in dairy and all sorts from an early stage. Which is fine for most kids, but with my history I wanted to be more careful.

On this thread I posted Olivier's timetable for introduction of foods (scroll down a bit to find it).

On a positive note - my dd has no eczema, and no signs of other problems.

Good luck to your friends!
