Can I get a dog? Son has mild reaction

Hi all, I'm after some advice. DS is 10, he has mild hay fever and mild allergic to dust, which was diagnosed with skin prick test when he was around 2. He doesn't take regular antihistamines, he just occasionally gets a sneezing fit and tickle in back of throat. We have a dog who is a "hypoallergenic" breed and he hasn't reacted to him (had him nearly 3 yrs), but I have noticed him having a mild reaction to other dogs. This didn't come up in the allergy test but he hasn't had one since. My friend is having lab/ golden retriever pups and I'd love to have one (and it's DSs fave dog), but I'm worried that once the adult coat comes through there may be a problem. Any thoughts? Is he likely to develop a tolerance to the dog given its a mild reaction anyway, or is there a danger it will get worse? FYI XH is allergic to exactly the same things as DS except he is very allergic to dogs. Also, DS lives with me half the week, so will that be a problem for tolerance build up? TIA

One other thing, my friend has the same breed and he has been in our house a number of times with DS and he hasn't reacted at all. It is a 4 month old pup though ...

Depends if you want your son to feel well at home 🤷‍♀️ this seems like a daft question

Tolerance build up just means getting used to feeling miserable, stick with the tried and tested hypoallergenic breed, you don't want to find your son feels poorly and you need to rehome the dog and your son would feel to blame
