Baby constipated - dairy allergy?

My DS is now 8.5 months old. For the past 3 weeks he has had hard clay like poo. He normally does a BM every day or every other but strains a lot and turns red in the face. His poo is either clay like or hard pellets. He is still BF (4x per 24 hours) and eating three meals a day. He is a good eater but I am constantly giving him food to help with constipation (prunes, pears, peas etc.). He has also developed some slight exczema on his cheeks as of late December that doesn't seem to irritate him. At 3 months old he was having some reflux and I cut dairy from my diet in the forms of cheese and milk but would still eat baked goods - this seemed to help a bit I think however could have also been him growing. I have now reintroduced dairy into my diet around 2 months ago. The GP suggested its prob a dairy and or soy allergy and to remove those from his diet and give a laxative (movicol) for the next two weeks. Has anyone had any experience with this? I've stopped all dairy and soy in his diet for 1 week and seeing no improvement. Please help!

Stopping the dairy and soy for one week may not be long enough to see an improvement unfortunately. Have you removed all dairy from his diet too?

If he's constipated, have you tried adding in another BF?
