Wheat, Egg and Tomato Allergic - Any help on MMR and egg allergy?

Have just found out that my 13 month old son has wheat, egg and tomato allergy. He is due to have his MMR next week. Have been advised by hospital that it is ok for him to have injection at the doctor's surgery. Has anyone had similar experience of this for their child?

Hi Pippin. My ds is allergic to egg. I was happy for him to have MMR at docs, but doc seemed to be uninformed about it and insisted on referring us to the paeds at hospital. So, he had it in the hospital and had to hang around all morning. He was absolutely fine.

My son also has an egg allergy and I was told it would be fine for him to have the MMR. In 2 weeks time, he is going to have his flu jab (high risk group), but that is normally a complete no no for children allergic to egg. He is having it administered at the hospital, can't say I am looking forward to it.

Heartmum - I was told that ds shouldn't have a flu or yellow fever injection as they actually contained egg, as opposed to the mmr which was only cultured in egg. I am assuming that the risk for your ds is greater from flu than it is for an allergic reaction?

That's right. His paed really wants him to have it done and went out of his way to get us booked in. His allergic reaction to egg is hives (which he hasn't outgrown, found out with an accidental reaction last week ), but complications for him from flu could be terrible (he's got a heart condition). That doesn't mean that I am not terrified about them purposely putting egg into his system. I am sure he will be fine, but the small possibility that he won't makes me feel physically sick. If he doesn't react to the first half dose, they will give the other half and subsuquent flu jabs at the gp flu clinic.

My egg allergic daughter had the mmr at the gp and had no problems.I have a paediatrician friend who gave me lots of info on it, before that i was very reluctant to have it done at the gps. I wouldn't allow them to do another jab at the same time as I didn't want to confuse the issue if she reacted.

Pippin2, I'm sure that will be fine. The MMR vaccine used to be cultured in egg but this practise was discontinued a couple of years ago.

Thanks for your messages everyone. My son had his MMR on Thursday morning - no reaction on the day. He had vomiting on Friday night though and today has had very runny poos - is this normal?? His eczema seems to be worse again today. Any help please.
