Any ideas what might be biting my son?

I'm at my wits end and looking for suggestions. A couple of weeks ago, my son woke up with what I presumed were small bites of some kind. I was mortified and worried it might be bed bugs as non of the rest of us have any bites at all. I therefore threw away his, mattress, bed frame and bedding, and thoroughly cleaned out his room

As a temp measure, I've put him in his sisters room on a brand new blow up bed, with brand new bedding. Yet the "bites" keep on coming. My house is super clean, and this is driving me to tears. Still no bites on the rest of us. I don't know what to do!

Any suggestions and ideas for making it stop very gratefully recurved!

Fleas?

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/04/2020 18:11

Could be spider?

Restlessinthenorth · 20/04/2020 18:13

Fleas 😫 how on earth would I have those in my house/know how to spot them? Wouldn't they bite us all?

I’m the only one gets bitten by fleas in our house.
I’ve been bitten even when we don’t have pets if we’ve been in long walks.

They just prefer some people to others

They are so hard to spot though.

Do you have pets at all?

puds11 · 20/04/2020 18:18

Does he play on the grass?

GagaBinks · 20/04/2020 18:18

Looks like fleas as they're in a straight line. We had them last year and even though I have a dog, it was just me who got bitten - very frustrating. God knows where they came from!

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/04/2020 18:18

Also, fleas can lay dormant over colder months and hatch out in spring/summer.

They can hide in cracks in floorboards or along skirtings.

Normally fleas would bite the ankles though.

The marks being on the midriff makes me think it’s more likely to be something that’s in the bed , but as you’ve changed bedding that should stop.

Look like flea bites to me

Restlessinthenorth · 20/04/2020 18:20

Oh god I feel sick. We have a dog but she has had her regular flea treatment. Ok, what do I need to do about this? How can I tackle it?

They look like flea bites to me too OP. Sorry.

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/04/2020 18:22

You could buy a flea bomb but you need to be out of the house for a while after doing it

A flea spray (decent one) will do the trick but also need to air the rooms before you go back in.

Itl be fine.
Can you order one on eBay or amazon?

What flea treatment do you currently use for dog? Some are known for being pants

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/04/2020 18:24

I’ve used this spray before

Get Indorex off Viovet online.

Not the cheapest but you spray the room then shut the door for a couple of hours.

Then go in and hoover everywhere.

Sounds like your dog flea treatment isn't working.
Which one do you use?

MazDazzle · 20/04/2020 18:27

I’m sure I read that everyone gets bitten, but some react and others don’t?

My daughter used to get similar looking bites when she was younger. I was paranoid too. We cleared out the entire floor. My husband treated the rooms with some sort of insect/flea killer and then replaced the carpets, bed, mattress etc but it made no difference.

We started giving her piriton at the first sight of a bite and now she’s not bothered by them. I think it’s from playing in the garden. We have a lot of trees/flies.

Restlessinthenorth · 20/04/2020 18:27

Thank you all. We are using Nex Gard. I'll order one of your suggestions. What do I need to do with the dog?

Definitely looks like flea bites. They don't always go for everyone so it's not unusual to have just one person affected. My neighbour had this issue with her DS. It turned out that the fleas were in the (outside) doormat and they were biting when the little boy sat on the mat to take his wellies off.

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/04/2020 18:30

Frontline the dog and buy from vet just to be safe

cushioncovers · 20/04/2020 18:31

Bed bugs?

screamer1 · 20/04/2020 18:35

Oh god this takes me back. We spent 3 months trying to work out what was biting my son. They were all blistered and infected. Countless trips to the gps who diagnosed molloscum, chicken pox and mosquito bites.

We finally found that it was fleas because we saw one on him one morning. Immediately got it rentokill who confirmed and dealt with it. Thank god. Nightmare 3 months!

screamer1 · 20/04/2020 18:35

Good luck!

jmh740 · 20/04/2020 18:36

Some times fleas become immune to treatments I have to alternate what I give my cats. I would order some indorex from amazon and order a different flea treatment for the dog, is ds itchy? He might need an antihistamine or some calamine cream. Treat the dog, hoover everywhere and then spray the whole house and go and sit outside for a couple of hours. Me and ds get badly bitten but oh and dd never get bitten.

Restlessinthenorth · 20/04/2020 18:41

Thank you all

He is itchy. I'm giving piriton and calamine. Ok I'll order from amazon now and hope it gets her ASAP. I feel so bloody guilty! Really not coping with working from home and home schooling...this on top is just the final straw!

Try not to be disheartened. They will be gone soon

Restlessinthenorth · 20/04/2020 19:25

Thanks @Rebelwithallthecause , everything just seems to be going wrong at the moment! . I've got indorex arriving Thursday and will get front line tomorrow. We can do it all on Friday in the good weather. Thank goodness it's my son who is reacting and not my daughter, as she knows how to take drama to the next level!

Caaarrrl · 20/04/2020 19:56

I don't find that front line works at all. Better with advantage. And I'm the only one in my house that gets bitten!
