Cows milk reintroduction - milk ladder at 12 months

I've just started my son on the milk ladder at 12 months. I gave him a step 1 cookie which has 1/40 of a teaspoon of baked milk powder in it and within 24 hours he got bad nappy rash. I've tried again twice since then and the same has happened both times. It must be a reaction to the cows milk but is it really possible to react to an amount this small? He was only diagnosed at 6 months and prior to that he was breastfed with me having plenty of cows milk and him not reacting...?

It’s taken 2 years for my DD to manage stage 1

@hormonesorDHbeingadick wow, sorry to hear that! Did you have to keep stopping and waiting 3 months to try again?

Initially we were advised to do it every month but now we wait longer. To be honest I have kind of stopped doing it as regularly now there is always something eg random illness or holiday. She can manage stage 1 and we have moved on to the odd digestive. Now I need to move onto giving a digestive every day for a week and see how that goes.

I know of other people whose children the same age are nearly at the top of the ladder.

My grandchild has been on a lactose free diet for the past 4 month, he has not been diagnosed by a GP, they said to cut it out to see how he gets on, the past 4 months he is waking up in the night screaming, he wakes up every hour and i cannot settle him, he is full of wind and is constantly catching every illness that is around, his nursery keeps telling me to take him home as he is not settling at all, i have tried to read up on being dairy free, but i cannot find out anything about it really, has anyone else experienced this, he is on aptamil Lactos free milk once a day, Lynn

It's the proteins that causes allergies rather than the sugars (lactose) so a lactose free milk won't make any difference. You need a different formula

Ds is 7 and can't get passed stage one on the milk ladder, have tried many times.if he's symptomatic then I would stop.
