Severe nappy rash - possibly milk protein intolerance

Hi,
My daughter is 6 weeks old and since about 2 weeks she started to develop severe nappy rash. It almost looks like a burn (photos won't attach as I'm new user).
She poos constantly and we change her nappy about 14 times a day. I have never changed a nappy without a poo in even 30 mins apart changing.

She has a diet of expressed milk and formula. To start she was 95% breast milk and it's now about 50:50. She tends to over eat and feeds often. She has gained weight and has increased percentiles. She never brings up milk. I think she has started comfort eating to deal with the pain. When ever she poos she screams and we change her. She tends to poo during changing due to the pain.

We have tried many creams including for thrush, bacterial, various barriers.... all sorts. We have tried air as much as we can but it's winter and she poos all the time so it's hard to do for long.

After 4th visit to doctors they have suggested mill protein intolerance and trying a formula with hydrolysed protein (aptimal pepti 1). We have yet to try it as the chemist needed to order it in.

Has anyone had experience of a similar situation? We are getting desperate and have very disturbed nights :(

Which creams have you tried so far? Have you tried Metanium? It usually does the job Smile

Also, have you tried changing the nappy brand? I’ve heard of an allergy to disposable nappies before.

Are you using wipes? Have you tried just water and cotton wool? Our DS has sensitive skin and couldn’t cope with wipes at all.

Hi, we have tried metanium, Sudafed, and a load of others doctors prescribed.

We are using water to clean her.

I'm pretty sure it must be a food intolerance as we chnage nappies up to 20 times a day. She doesn't stop pooing.

The aptimal pepti seems like it could be helping. But it's only day 2 of using it.
Fingers crossed

It sounds like you’ve tried most things. If you suspect dairy, have you gone dairy free?

We’ve got a DF festive food thread going in the Allergies Section, if you fancy joining us Smile

The rash is finally improving after switching to Cow’s milk allergy formula! She clearly did have a milk intolerance

Glad your DD is improving. We had the same issue with DS, and found the yellow Weleda cream to be an absolute saviour and the only thing that would shift a rash.
