bad eczema sudden flare up, feel guilty

dd3, has just had a sudden flarwe up. she was washing her hands and put some soap on her tummy, her skin all over has flared up and she has come in screaming. have had to bath her in cool water, and have applied lots of creams and given her a dose of piriton.

the handwash/soap is for adult use, the kids use dermol, but i wasnt supervising as didnt know dd3 was in there.

Aw sweetie, you can't supervise her all the time. There's absolutely no reason to feel guilty.

How old is she? Maybe the experience will be a good learning one in that it'll reinforce which ones she can use safely?

she is 2, and potty training, so is always running in and out of the bathroom.

oh she looks so severe. just a few weeks ago her skin was so smooth and lovely, now its cracked, blweeding and sore all over

It's not your fault! Just an accident, AS RD says perhaps she will learn not to use other soaps, maybe she was trying it because you said not to? I touched a light bulb when I was about 4 even though my mum told me it would hurt - I got the biggest blister ever but I ddn't do it again!

DS1 is 2.7 and he definitely does things I've said not to, whilst looking to see if I'm there (I have spied on him ) - it's just something kids do, don't beat yourself up about it - you've done what you can.

well its all been moved out of her reach.

poor baby. she must be feeling better as is running round with dd1.

Aw bless her, I bet she was so proud of doing it by herself too, poor little mite.

Just one of those things, don't feel guilty please. At 2 she's easily old enough to learn from the experience and hopefully understand WHY mummy said no now

poor child. Accidents happen, unfortunately, hope she's better soon.

Don't feel bad. You have enough to deal with, don't beat yourself up too (says me as if I don't do this). As RubberDuck says, you can't supervise her all the time and unfortunately, there will be other accidents which won't be your fault either. You can't beat yourself up every time.

At least you know she can have a 'good skin phase'.
