DS came out in hives today

DS, who is 2, came out in hives down his back. I only noticed because I was changing his t-shirt. I rushed him down to the chemist who said it didn't look too fierce, and it probably happened because he has a cold, and the body sometimes attacks itself as well as the virus.

The thing is DS has came out in hives a few times before on his face, which we put down to a catfur allergy, and have since got rid of the cats.

Has anyone had any experience of this? It didn't seem to bother DS but I can't help but worry

Hives isnt lifethreatening....just a bit itchy.

Piriton usually works.

I used to suffer from it and now cannot take aspirin.

I wouldnt worry about it.

My dds had this about two months ago.
At the time, I hadn't a clue what 'hives' was and called NHS direct in a bit of a panic as it was so red and angry.

DD2 got it first, then dd1 a week later. It lasted about a week, flaring up then going away. They both had very bad colds at the time. DD2 incidentally had just started a course of antibiotics on the same day as the hives showed up. She is now labelled as allergic to penicillin. Though, I doubt this and feel it was due to the bad cold. As dd1 also got hives so doubtful that it could've been an allergy to penicillin also.

Neither child found it a bother, no itching etc. Now they've had it, it's all I seem to hear about and seems very common.

if you wash in biological powder I'd switch to non bio. Worth keeping piriton handy.

ds used to get this but we never figured out what it was. it went away when he was about 5.

Thanks for your replies, it makes me feel a bit better

I worry far too much and always think the worst. I've got piriton in the house from the cat allergy days so I'll just have to keep using it if it appears again.
