Am in kefalonia with dh, ds6 and ds3. We were having lunch out st a taverna (I eat everything and have no food allergies) anyway as we were sitting there I had a severe allergic reaction to something, don't know what, it's never happened before. I just turned bright red, firstly on my face, and then it worked its way across my arms and chest, and was suddenly covered in hives and felt disconnected and very faint. Then had this crushing headache too. Dh and I were both terrified but trying to keep it from both ds. Dh managed to get some antihistamines into me and get me back to our villa, and after more antihistamines and oral morphine (and 24 hours of the most horrendous d&v 😳) I'm much better. Frightening though, as no idea what caused it. I was eating a bloody tuna salad for gods sake and drinking a Coke Zero!!
Has anyone had anything Luke this happen to them?

I get this from wasp stings, horrible but at least I know what to avoid.

I think the panic exacerbates the symptoms too.

Have you been treated by medical staff? If not something to watch for is a second delayed reaction.

I personally would be having allergy testing and looking into epi pens when you get home.

Hi there. Thanks so much for replying. I have had epipens in the past, for bee and wasp stings, but stupidly have let them lapse as haven't ever had an episode in the ten years since diagnosis. I have a skin condition called urticaria pigmentosa which means I 'may' be allergic to them. (I am pretty allergic to mosquitoes etc). I also am staring to become allergic to plastic bags and things, and come up in a rash after handling them. It is very stupid of me to let the epipens lapse, and I will get a repeat prescription when I get home, especially as I am a very keen gardener and live in the middle of nowhere Blush
I haven't been seen by any medical staff, it happened 5 days ago, and I've had nausea and diarrhoea since though and have only been eating what I have cooked at the villa.

you are very lucky to still be alive. certainly should get checked to ensure yr blood pressure and lung function are ok
normally after anaphylaxis you are prescribed steroids for five days and monitored in case of a another anaphylaxis return.
keep up antihistamine dose at least every 4hours.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 29/05/2018 21:29

Jesus OP go to a Dr/clinic and get checked over. If you get an epi pen prescription over there at least you'll have something to hand if it happens again.

Might have been the tuna. DH and I had a terrible experience from fresh tuna once. Needed treatment in hospital briefly

exexpat · 29/05/2018 21:34

Look up scombroid poisoning - what happened to you sounds very much like that. It's a massive histamine reaction to spoiled fish, common with tuna, so probably a one-off rather than new fish allergy.

Katisha · 29/05/2018 21:35

This was what we had

Ragusa · 03/06/2018 22:45

I thought Scromboid also.

blitzen · 04/06/2018 09:34

Nasty. I have a bad reaction with a burning face to Fever Tree tonic. All other brands are fine! I now carry antihistamines with me. I have also been ill with mussels twice. Your reaction sounds really severe. I hope you are feeling better x

DownUdderer · 04/06/2018 09:38

I thought if that fish allergy that others have mentioned. Look after yourself op

Spanglyprincess1 · 04/06/2018 09:47

Then I lived in India I woke up unable to breathe one night and it was terrifying. When I saw the doctor they said it was a severe allergic reaction but I still don't know what to.
Please go to the doctor or hospital and get checked you might need further treatment.
