Best alternative milk for my 1 year old?

I have one DS (6) who had CMPA and egg allergy. Now outgrowing both. He was breastfed for first year and then would only take small amounts of oat milk and eventually gave up his ‘milk’ feeds by 18 months.

My DD is about to turn 1. She had to be formula fed from 4 weeks, and within a week of standard formula had diarrhoea, blood in poo, eczema and was very unhappy. Nutramagin made her worse. We switched to comfort formula while we waited to see consultant and all symptoms disappeared. Consultant concluded no CMPA as would still show with comfort formula. She has been on this ever since.

We have tried her with standard formula a couple of months ago but within a day or so her excema came back. We returned to comfort before anything more happened. we have tried her with dairy products (ice-cream) and this also brought her out in a rash. I’m waiting for a re-referral to consultants.

In the mean time however, I’m wondering what to do about her milk now that she is 1. Unlike her brother, she seems to love her milk and still has 4 bottles a day (5-8oz a time). She doesn’t have any other dairyfoods and I’m reluctant to cut these down if she still asks for them. But I’m not sure what alternative milk to switch to now that she dsnt specifically need formula. I have been thinking of just keeping her on the comfort but I don’t want this to drag on for another year! Formula can be a bind especially as we still have to mix it up with the powder (comfort dsnt come in ready mades l).

I heard about alpro soya 1+ but that it was high in sugar. With her drinking so much milk I’m not sure this is suitable?

I was also thinking of oat milk as we used for DS but heard the fat content is not good enough.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Hey. Our dietician recommended Oat milk for our DD when we added Soya to her list of allergies at 12 months (the switch from amino acid formula to soya milk was dramatic!!) they were completely content that she would be nutritionally provided for drinking Oat milk. If you are worried about getting more fat into your DD then try adding high fat foods to her diet - tinned mackerel is a massive hit in our house, as are avocados and she loves olive oil on toast. We haven’t had any low-fat issues raising DD on oat milk and it’s widely available which is a great help. She’s 18 months now and off back to allergy clinic in the morning.

I hope you get to the bottom of what triggers your little girl, it’s such a complex thing and trying to work it all out we found very tricky. Good luck!
