Right my ds has always been a nightmare to feed and had (TMI alert!!) loose bowels, even at 5 months his poo looked akin to that of a newborn! as he got bigger he started being sick a lot after feeds and i thought it was reflux....he was prescribed gaviscon which worked for a few days then he went back to normal, they then prescribed enfamil (an anti reflux formula powder) which seemed to work for a few days and now hes gone back to normal..........is this normal or do you think its a reaction to cows milk????

please help, its driving me barmy, with this new formula feeding is easier (im not shoving a bottle into a screaming childs mouth) but hes still really sicky, what am i doing wrong????

Hello, my DS2 was also on Enfamil but still sicked up!!! It helped with the screaming -is this sounding familiar?? So I no longer had to almost force feed him.

He was a much happier baby, was on Enfamil from 17 weeks old and has just stopped it now at 1 year old. We also did the gaviscon route first with the same result - ie it worked for a few days then he went back to screaming.

How old is your ds now?

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 13/05/2007 22:02

hiy yeah exactly that im not force feeding a screaming child anymore but is still sicky!!!

It does get better especially as they wean -did the whole BLW thing but gave potato mash and sweet potato mash but no other purees.

For DS1 I actually bought a baby dan so he was confined to where he could sick up - also a reflux baby, then when he could crawl I bought a carpet cleaner!!!

With DS2 the food helped keep the milk down -he did still sick but without the screaming and he reduced his water intake which out weighed the milk, he learnt that milk made him ill so would sick up and then have water, sick that up, have more water, sick that up - you see where this is going He would eventually fall asleep exhausted.

As they cruise and are upright more they sick up less. So my answer is yes you probably will have a sicky baby for a while.

Are you weaning him yet?

he sits with us while we eat and has a spoon (although im not giving him access to any food on his own for a while i like the colour of my walls!!) and when he pays attention to what we'r eating i give him a spoon of mashed potato or mashed carrot and swede or a peice of naan bread yorkshire pud etc.............

.........acctually that sounds rather like BLW doesnt it?

Sure does, with DS1 we weaned at 17wks as that was the done thing and we were advised to because of the reflux.

With DS2 we did the BLW and he basically nicked a piece of crumpet smeared with Philadelphia out of my hand when I was eating it. Not the best food to start off with! From there just gave him what his brother ate (he is almost 4) and also followed Aitch's blog - have you seen that?

It does get better it just feels like a very long process.

I am hoping that you are getting your Enfamil AR on prescription. Just wish they made bigger tins of the stuff, we used to ring the pharmacy in advance and our prescription was for 10 tins.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 13/05/2007 22:27

the tin size is stupid isnt it!!

yeah it is on prescription thankfully!! we first got given one tin....hmm helpful 2 days worth, then went back and she prescribed 6 tins, might ask next time for 10.....would probably last nearly 3 weeks which would be great!!!

thanks for helping!!

oh and btw ds's first food was gingerbread man that dd gave him (2.6) he went mad when i took it off him!!!

right off to bed now thanks for all the help!
