Can cows milk allergy return after being outgrown?

My baby had a cows milk allergy when he was younger but grew out of it when he was 1 years old. He’s now 18 months and every poo he does is runny for the past 4 weeks. I’ve taken him to the doctors who have taken a poo sample, but I’m wondering if his cows milk allergy could have come back? Is that possible?

I’ve seen posts in the past where people have said it’s returned, sorry if that’s not what you want to hear.

Did you do the milk ladder at one? Is that why you thought the allergy had gone?

We adopted him when he was 14 months old, we were just told he had outgrown it by his dietrician.

Thank you for letting me know this could be a possibility, we’ll try changing his diet whilst we wait for the poo sample results from the doctors!

My son had CMPA and has outgrown it. However, he does seem fine generally, but every now and then symptoms do return. Its like he can tolerate dairy, but only if he takes the odd break for a week or two. Maybe it would be classed as an intolerance now... its like it builds up inside him and then at some point his body needs a break.

This is also the case after stomach bugs.

Have you tried removing dairy to see if it resolves his symptoms?

I had CMPA as a baby, appeared to outgrow it but could honestly only tolerate it in things like cake. I’ve cut it out completely as an adult and honestly feel so much better for it. Like wonder says, it might be worth cutting it out for a few weeks to see how he gets on.

Congratulations on your new LO too Thanks
