seeds aren't nuts though

nuts are seeds with hard shells

I would avoid anything that gives any allergic reaction tbh .. particularly if exacerbating an irritating condition like excema

can you not see how he reacts to tahina (sesame seed paste)

don't know about escalating

as twig says, sesame is not a nut, but is another common allergen.

and yes, exposure can make allergies worse.

why not drop it out of his diet?

Funnily enough dd2 got diagnosed with sesame allergy (among others) yesterday

GP should be able to refer you for allergy tests on NHS. Ours did for dd1 when she was maybe 18 months or younger, without us having to push for it at all.
