Has anyone used nasal sprays for hay fever (eg Beconase) whilst breastfeeding? Just wondered if anyone had problems with their LO while doing so.

I think that Piriton antihistimine tablets are all that you can take when breastfeeding.

yes, I'ved used them, no there are no problems...the steroid acts on the nasal tissue and only microscopic amounts get into the blood stream.

this has had good write-ups in Which? Magazine recently.

Had to just say that I spoke to the Pharmasist (sp?) and was told that as I am BFing an 8 month old quoting her exactly - "established feeding in an older baby" , that decongestants (especially sudafed)and hayfever remedies such as my usual beconase/triludan were not suitable as they could effect my milk supply - not that they would all be bad for baby - but could lower my supply.

Have just looked at the link and will definately be looking into buying some of that! Thanks Tissy - have you tried it?

duomonstermum · 04/05/2007 20:13

i'll try that. suffering really badly and the thought of no medication was making me want to stop breastfeeding.

no, haven't tried it- haven't managed to find any locally yet, and am too tight to pay the postage
