Sympathies Podmog. I bought a thing called Haymax which you are supposed to put around your nostrils to stop the pollen getting in. Haven't tried it yet though as I tend to get my hayfever later in the season. I think that eyedrops and nasal sprays are okay to use while bf though? I am also planning to ask my doctor at the 6 week check (DD2 only 3 weeks atm) if there REALLY aren't any antihistamines which are safe, as I can't bear the thought of an itchy, snuffly summer!

I got a nasal spray and something else form the docs to use while breast feeding. It stopped the runny nose but not the general awful feeling.

This is the first year for 6 years I haven't been either pregnant or breast feeding and boy has the hay fever hit me hard. so I can sympathise with you

The nasel spray is fine. With first ds they said not but last season I was prescribed it and it was such a releif! before that I was sticking vaseline up my nose!

My sneezing is sooo bad strangers are saying 'Bless You' in Victoria station. I am breasfeeding a tiny amount at bed time so I asked chemist for strongest they got 0 Benadryl was recomended. I took one at 7am and it only started working at about 10am.

I got up at 02.30 this moring to take a piriton and it hardly worked at all. See this artice in particular Quercetin. i would take it along side the Piriton.

My DP is deeply sceptical about alternative medicine but one year we were seeing a homeopath for DS's severe eczema (desperate) and she noticed him streaming. She gave him a remedy and said it worked for about 50% of people and you would know straight away if it worked. Guess what it worked but the silly sod never noted the name and has never been able to find a homeopathic remedy in teh shops to work. Didn't help DS though.

This was mentioned on TV yesterday - apparently it does work and it would be completely OK with breastfeeding since no drug is involved:

Hope you can find a solution that works and that you feel happy with.

I was really suffering last year when I was pg, and asked my obstetrician if I could take anything. He said piriton is OK when pg - he double checked for me in fact. Apparently he prescribes it more for other allergies than hayfever. He advised me to take it only if I really needed it. The flip side is that it makes me really drowsy. But it may be worth asking if you can take it when bf.

Btw, I have found that putting vaseline or lip salve around my nostrils works just as well as more expensive stuff marketed as a hayfever barrier.
