Lactose intolerence and kidney refulx. Is there a link?

My 3 and half month son was diagnosed with lactose intolerence at 2 months old. He also has kidney reflux. My SILs 4 and half month old son has EXACTLY the same complaints. Is there a link between the two? Or is it just bad luck? Any infor would be greatfully received.

I had kidney reflux as a child - no lactose inteolerance so there certianly wasn;t a link in my case.

don't think there's a link between the two but I suppose both could have a genetic basis. Anyone else in the families with the same problems? If not its probably just bad luck.

my kidney reflus was due to congential abnormality in uereter (mild abnormality) which I'm told is hereditary

The weird thing is these are the first two babies in the family dignosed with both conditions. No other history and we've both got other kids as well. Both conceived within a couple of weeks of each other in New Zealand. I wonder if there's something in the water over there LOL!

ah well that would explain it then - the NZ water. If its any consolation to you my reflus though very serious at the time, has had no lasting health consequences

Yeah I was never really bothered about the reflux. When it was 'discovered' at a 30 week scan I was told not to worry because at his ultrasound after he was born it would probabaly have resolved itself. So I went to my results appointment 100% expecting for everything to be ok and for him to be taken off the antibiotics. But the consultant said it had got worse and he needed more tests and more antibiotics. Then he got diagnosed with lactose intolerence which is another pain in the butt! Got to admit I'm slightly paranoid about this baby (to the point when my doc diagnosed me with post-natal depression) because he's my baby after miscarrage and we though I was going to miscarrage again (neg pregnancy tests for AGES!). And then I was off work since 4 months gone because I was having REALLY strong braxton hicks and was in and out of hospital thinking I was going into prem labour. (The bugger was 13 days late in the end!) And I was in labour for 3 days with him and his heart nearly stopped (nearly had an emergency ceserean (sp?) but got him out in time (and but cutting me to shreads - with no pain relief might I add). So I am VERY over-protective with him, he's such a mummys boy. Anyway after that essay I'm just interested if there is a link really, at the end of the day if it is or isn't connected I've still got to deal with it!
