16 month old waking up with swollen eyes

My daughter is 16 months, for the past 5 weeks she's started waking up with swollen eyes, at first just a little puffy then really swollen (as in pic) I took her to the docs and she was given eye drops which she was on for a week. Soon as she stopped them they started to swell again. Took her back to the docs and she was given antibiotics and antibiotic eye drops. Same again soon as she's off her eyes start to swell again. so again back to the docs and given the same eyes drops she was first given, took a urine sample to test for protein in the urine which was clear and she's been referred to an eye specialist which Is next week. Had to take her back to the docs again today as they're starting to swell up again. They seem to think it's an allergy, I don't know what though? I haven't changed and washing liquid, wash products, nothing food wise she hasn't had before. And I just feel like I'm never going to get to the bottom of it as everytime I go to the docs she's just having eye drops she's not been checked over or anything else being done. I can't keep giving g her eye drops for god knows how long, if anyone has expericed anything like this before any advice would be great. Thanks

Did you get an answer on this? My daughter is 5 and experiencing the same.

Casie1981 · 06/03/2019 22:00

Our 2 year is experiencing the SAME thing. Been going on over a month. Went to pediatric urologist this morning and all is clear.

Would love to hear if you figured this out. Only happens when she is laying down for naps and sleep for the night. The longer she is upright the less the swelling.

I know that you haven't changed washing powders but can I ask which one you use?

Casie1981 · 07/03/2019 20:10

Tide Free and Gentle

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/03/2019 20:59

I don’t know that one, sorry. The reason I was asking is that in the U.K. they’ve changed the formula of Fairy Non-Bio and now lots of people are reacting to it. Could it be that your Tide has changed too?

Other than that has anything else changed where she sleeps? Has she had a new mattress or has the room been decorated for instance?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/03/2019 13:37

How is she now @luciamaria?

Darla143 · 03/11/2021 02:08

Hi my 13 month old daughter's eyelids are swollen too and we've been the doctor, same as you been given eye drops was told its an allergic reaction. Wanted to know if you were able to find out what the cause of your daughters might be?

Darla143 · 03/11/2021 02:09

I have the same thing going on with my 19 months old daughter , her eye lids are very puffy every morning when she wakes up for the month now. We checked her urine her kidneys are fine. Pediatrician thinks it’s the allergy ,I have been giving her Zyrtec

for couple days doesn’t seem to help. I’m afraid their is something else going on. Did anyone got an answer from previous posts?? Thanks

This is a long shot but did anyone get any answers from this thread? My DD looks the same the the OP’s picture and I’m wondering what ever came of it??

WorriedMamaBear21 · 19/12/2023 18:46

Hello!
This might be a long shot because this thread hasn’t been posted to in a while, but I couldn’t believe it when my husband sent me this thread. We’ve been struggling the last month with this same exact issue with our little girl. She just turned two. So far she’s had an allergy panel and we’ve tried all the things the doctors recommend; eye drops, bacterial eye spray, Zyrtec, Benadryl, everything. We’ve now narrowed it down to only happening when she wakes up from a nap or from sleeping at night. It seems most likely to be fluid retention, but of course we have to jump through all the hoops to get to a specialist. We are at our wits’ end and starting to become very concerned with the severity of her swelling. Would love anyone to reply if they’ve experienced this with their child. Thanks in advance mamas!

Hi all! This an old post but maybe this will help. My child had this and it was two things. One, feather down. Two, and this is the big one - tomatoes. She developed an allergy over time. She was not born with it. Try cutting out tomatoes completely and avoiding down

Hi everyone,
I know it’s been a while since I’ve been here ,but just want to let y’ all know my daughter has been diagnosed with Celiac disease. I hope this helps some worry parents search for answers online.

Hi I'm having the same thing with my 2 year old little girl - has been a few months and she has been waking up with puffy eyelids - they don't seem to bother her too much but I'm so worried. Have had her urine checked which showed no protein.
