Dd is 6 months, since she was 3 months I have been on a dairy free diet as my eating dairy seemed to cause her abdo pain, resulting in hours of screaming, which stopped when I started dairy free diet. (she is exc BF), but recently (past month) I have become aware of how snuffly she is, lots of people Inc a midwife have asked if she has a cold, she snores very loudly and sounds like a piglet when feeding, she has also developed a rash on her face, could this be a sensitivity to something else? Due to see GP soon, and as Ive had no support for my dairy intolerance theory, would like to go fully aware of what could possibly be causing her to be like this.

DD1 was like this - we could hear her snoring through 2 shut doors! She also had lots of rashes/eczema. Turned out she had massively enlarged tonsils and adenoids which she had out when she was 2 (and whilst doing the op, they also discovered she had very bad glue ear in both ears as well, so gave her grommets). Since the op, she's been absolutely fine and her eczema has cleared up as well, although she's probably just grown out of that. She was on soya formula as a baby, so couldn't have been a dairy problem.

Anyway, might be worth getting the doctor to check her tonsils/adenoids, just to rule it out IYKWIM.

my dd has been like this since day 1, thought it was due to the trauma of the birth - took a while to get her breathing.

HV and GP didn't really know why, then I mentioned that she often holds her breath when sleeping as well as the noisy snoring.

Off to consultant - large adenoids - which make her snore. No real reason why they are enlarged.

She was on antibiotics in order to reduce the bacterium that caused the adenoids to be enlarged - no luck.

Could be linked to allergies, but I was exactly the same as was my sister - we eventally grew out of it and have no allergies that I'm aware off. But DD is having hers out - due to the apnea.

I'd certainly support your dairy intolerance theory. My abysmally snotty son was cured of his condition by cutting out dairy. Aparently you can put them on goat milk/cheese to begin with, but pretty soon they build up an intolerance to that too. I don't know if you're giving her goat or sheep stuff?

The next thing I'd try would be cutting out wheat altogether. Tricky at first, especially as you've already cut out the dairy, but well worth a go.

6 months is very young and you have to remember their tubes are small and wheezy and grunty still at this age, so hopefully it's nothing to worry about ans she'll grow out of it, but if you want to pursue other options then try the wheat thing.

You could also take her to a naturopath. Ignore the sceptics. You're the mum. You know what feels right as you know her better than anyone.

She is definately more blocked up than normal baby grunting. Large adenoids sounds more likely than intolerance possibly. I will have a chat to GP about it. Thankyou for your replies.
