Recipe ideas - free from gluten, dairy, soy and eggs

Hi everyone, my son is nearly 2 and he is allergic to dairy, soy, gluten and eggs. With so many restrictions I found it really hard to think up meal ideas to give him a good balanced diet when we first started on weaning. I’ve had lots of practice now and decided to start up a website to share the recipes I use to hopefully help others who are in a similar situation. I’ll be adding new recipes each week. If you’re interested, the website is beyond-broccoli.com, or you can follow on instagram (@beyond_broccoli) for recipe updates.

I'm also about to attempt a birthday cake with no dairy, eggs, gluten and soy, so if anyone had any ideas or tips that would be great!

Just realised it's much more helpful to put links to the website and instagram feed in!

That's a pretty free-from cake... if it turns out well, please post the recipe!

MollyHuaCha · 07/07/2017 15:50

Oh sorry, I've just realized you wanted recipes from us Grin

Ok, ice cream: freeze chunks of banana. Remove from freezer ten minutes before required. Pop in a blender - that's it! For variations you can add frozen berries to the banana, or add cocoa powder, frozen mango, peanut butter etc.

BeyondBroccoli · 08/07/2017 07:06

Haha, yes I need help! I'm determined to make a good one though, so I'll let you know what I come up with.

I've made the banana ice cream before with raspberries, but I hadn't thought of cocoa. That will be a nice addition to the birthday party menu (and can distract from the cake if necessary Blush ). Thanks!

Do you know the website of the Free From Fairy? Brilliant multi allergy recipes, and really tasty!

BeyondBroccoli · 08/07/2017 19:15

No, I haven't heard about that one, I'll check it out. Thanks!

We have the same exclusions in our house and this cane was delicious

Chocolate cake I used co- yo yogurt and almond milk, Tesco own brand dark chocolate is everything free.

Betty Crocker chocolate fudge & vanilla icing is also fine and actually pretty good. You could layer the cakes and ice them.

whoknewitwastrue · 09/07/2017 23:48

I've also make kids birthday cakes with fondant icing which worked well too.

I think the key with making GF cake really is to try and avoid anything too light and spongey as it's hard to get right. Dense cakes turn out so much better.

That chocolate and beetroot cake looks amazing! I'll definitely be giving it a go, will let you know how I get on x

p.s. I went to the big allergy and free from show at Olympia at the weekend and found some new products. This is the kind of thing I find very exciting these days! I shared my favourites on my website, in case you ladies are interested:

Made this for my sons 2nd birthday. He's severely allergic to wheat, egg and dairy. The recipe uses soy milk but I'm pretty sure any replacement milk would work. I made a simple 'butter' icing rather than the icing listed on the recipe. It came out pretty well!

Wow Kilicat, that choc avocado cake looks ridiculously good, thank you so much! I love that it includes some sneaky veg as well. So glad I posted on here, it's given me lots of great cake ideas - time to get baking...

KarmaNoMore, haha, yes just cakes. Like you, I've been in this allergy game a while, and in fact started up this thread as i wanted to share the website I've started up to share tips and recipes - beyond-broccoli.com. So glad you posted all that advice though, it's spot on from my experience. I hope any newbies who get to this post see it, as I know they'll find it useful x x

I got some really helpful advice on birthday cake recipes on here in July, so just wanted to share the finished product! I made the Good Food chocolate avocado cake with cacao frosting and it tasted so good, my son loved it. Thanks for the tips!

I know, I know, this is an old thread. I'm just posting on here to keep it in my "I'm on" section - I hope noone minds! DS has recently added wheat to his collection of allergies, already including dairy, eggs and soya, so I want to come back to this to fully explore all the links :)
