Dairy and egg free birthday cake?

Does anyone have a recipe? I've searched for vegan recipes but most seem to be chocolate cakes - I'm looking for a 'simple' sponge cake that can stand up to some icing so not too crumbly or delicate (was going to make my tried and tested vegan banana cake but it is so crumbly I don't think it would take the icing. Any ideas?

Yes there is a favourite one that most of us use which MyMama posted a while back. Will try and find the thread. Bare with me, am at work!

Birthday Cake thread

check through it for mymama's recipe - it is truly wonderful, and a deffo favourite in our house. Best cooked at about 170 for about 40 minutes. I put the mixture in two sandwich tins then sandwich together with chocolate butter cream (made with Pure Dairy Free Spread)

Hope this helps.

oh yes, use 2 x blended bananas instead of egg replacer.

I can vouch for the yumminess of this recipe - I made it last week with the 2 bananas instead of egg replacer and it really is lovely. Nobody can believe it's dairy and egg free. Good luck with it.
Oh BTW I tried to make it in a 9inch tin as I didn't have a 7 inch and it comes out too flat, I ended up making x2 the quantity and sandwiching together but it was a bit too heavy. Def best in 2x7inch tins.
