Try to cut a long story short!

DS2 (nearly 5 months) was diagnosed with reflux after he was weaned onto formula at 8 weeks - he had previously not been 'sicky'. He also developed eczema which just spread and spread until last week, with advice from a few docs and HVs we switched from enfamil AR (a thickened milk for reflux management that was working to stop him being too sick) to nutramigen. We also wondered if the sickness might also be due to intolerence. In 4 days his eczema has improved but he has continued the mega sickness but even more so and it's thinner. It just is like a constant flow out of his mouth and his neckline is constantly soggy though I change his bib very often.

Anyway, now he has this rash under his chin and has red spots on his bum and I'm considering a few things (it appeared last night):

  • could it be thrush as the spots are in warm soggy places? - I have been putting canestan on but no improvement
  • could it be a reaction to a supposedly hypo-allergenic milk?
  • could it be completely unrelated and he's ill?

Arrghh, have work tomorrow morning and wondering if anyone else has had similar experience so I can avoid taking time off for a trip to the doctors.

TIA

ds has this now, hes 7m, just had a swab done and it's thrush. Interestingly he's a reflux baby though much better now.

I think it started as i used to lay him to sleep on his side and sick/dribble trickled into his ear which is where the thrush originated, it is now all along his jawline and around his mouth. Sometimes it flares up and looks terribly sore, then it's pretty much gone...several times a day.
It's horribly persistent but wasn't diagnosed early so hopefully if that's what your ds has you can treat it quickly.
Don't want to depress you, a reflux baby is enough already....good luck!

Thanks for the reply adelaide. That sounds like DS2, flares up and then in hour seems not too bad, then flares up again. I'll keep treating with canestan for a few days - just manged to get some infant gaviscon so hopefully we can control the sickness a bit more and he'll be less soggy.
