Eating out with coeliac disease

My sister is visiting in a couple of weeks and I want to take her out for lunch. Where is best for gluten and dairy free? There's a giraffe, frankie and bennys, prezzo, eds diner, nandos. We could also easily get to a bella Italia. Any particularly a good idea?

Any views?

My son is dairy and egg free so not the same but we find Nandos and giraffe's allergy menus really good. If you have a zizzis near you I would recommend them as well. I struggle with frankie and benny's, wouldn't go there again.

I only know Bella italia and ed's in terms of GF but they are good.

My favourite from your list is Prezzo, they do good GF pizzas and pastas. Nandos is good as well, and Giraffe isn't too bad. My personal favourite chain is Pizza Express, they do most of their pizzas on a GF base and even do GF dough balls and beer!

Our local bella gave us the speech that although gluten free they couldn't be sure on contamination. Two of my children have coeliac. Personally I'd pick your preferred And speak to the manager to see how they manage cross contamination.

Frankie and Bennys have a separate gluten free menu but my word, it was bland.

It sounded good on paper. I ordered salmon fillet with rosemary new potatoes, veg and salsa verde. What arrived was a completely plain salmon fillet, a few peas and a plain (and very dry) jacket potato.

It was almost like they thought coeliac = adverse reactions to food with gluten and flavour. Needless to say, I wouldn't go there again.

Nandos are good, very on the ball with allergies. Mind you, I try to eat veggie so have only had their salad. Pizza Express seem to have a GF alternative for everything too.

I am coeliac & dairy free. Pizza express good for pizza(I take my own cheese) bella Italia nice they have a few gluten free choices on their menu.

Bella are fabulous with coeliacs, there are 3 of us all severely affected and we've never been glutened

Their new garlic bread is yum so much so we have to order extra for the kids, we have had pasta and pizzas which have all been fine

You might already have eaten out with your sister, but if not have a look at BarConvent in York - unique place and they can do a lot of gluten free stuff (sorry, don't know about dairy free). We find Wagamama excellent for gluten free as well (though haven't been in York).
