My daughther is allergic to her glasses

not as funny as it sounds. DD3 has been wearinf specs since July. She got a new pair at the weekend, and i noticed these big red marks on the bridge of her nose. I thought it looked like bad rubbing, but then these spots appeared. I took her to the opticians and said i though the glasses were rubbing. She took them off DD3 and said that it looked mroe like an allergic reaction. So they have swapped the silicone bridge on the glasses for a different material bridge, and have said to keep an eye on it. They are going to find out what the bridge is definatkly made of (it appears to be clear silicone, the new bridge has a cloudy appearance, so not sure). The skin on the bridge of her nsoe has now peeled.

It's a real problem

& a pair of surgicl steel (made my surgeon sew me up after an op - cos of that)

I find I am ok with ordinary plastic frames - but only if the bridge is made of the same material - if it has any add ons then it's no good

I have the same problem. I find titanium frames and the 'memoflex' ones from SpecSavers are fine for me (and can cope with dd1 bashing me around!)

the thing is, because she is so young (22months) and small, the onyl glasses we can get have the big platicy/rubber/silicone bridge. am hoping this new bridge isnt a problem.

i remember when dd2 was reaction to knicker elastic, how much problems that caused. so am not looking forward to another strange thing to watch for. fortujnatly dd2 stopped reacting about 12months ago.

Could you paint the bridge with clear nail polish to cover it? Guess that might not work over silicone, though ...

hmmm not sure.i'd be worried that would react being in close contact with her skin. going to see how she goes over the next few days, give her more piriton tonight and report back to opticians next week if this works. if not then back to the drawing board.

My dad reacts badly to a wide range of metals, rusting the metal and coming up in a rash. But the clear nail polish trick works fine for him.

I always hated the clear nail varnish thing. It always peels off eventually then you end up putting more on and it goes all gloopy and lumpy and disgusting and you always miss a tiny bit of metal so you get a rash anyway ...

well she came out in spots and a 'burn' like thing on her nose again today, so have gone back. have ordered another pair of glasses to be made up ASAP, if that doesnt work then they will have to get a pair specially made up for her. Have coated current bridge in clear varnish, but dd3 isnt impressed to be honest, and keeps rubbing her nose. i cant leave her without glasses as its a strong perscription and she needs them all the time.

Could try optician's professional body www.college-optometrists.org or www.eyecaretrust.org for further help and advice - they should definately have someone who can help you.

i think that will be our next step if the nhew glasses do the same.
