coeliac diagnosis? gen anaestethic(sp) worries?

my nephew (11) has had bad tummy pain for a year. bloods/stools all neg. he has appoinment with hos for gen anestheatic, blow stomach up wih air and camera up and one down! sister is really panicing, anyone experience?

oh no! sorry to worry you! sister is very stressed, was hoping someone on here had this doen already and could say. its ok, quick easy, etc' they only take a little bit of the bowel... arghhhh

DDs best friend had this done a year or so ago when she was 5-6 yrs old.

She had a general anaesthetic and they did a biopsy (I think). She was in and out of hospital in the same day. Her Mum was (as all Mums would be) stressed and worried beforehand but everything was fine, her DD was fine, no after effects and back at school asap telling everyone about it!

The test did confirm that shes coeliac but shes adapted to the diet without a problem and it has really improved her energy levels etc.

think sis is worried about possiblilty of perforation. its all just so stressful! I gues salso worrying bcos not sure it is coeliacs, maybe a valve that is closedpproperly or somethign, as bloods came back neg for coeliacs. but co shse had to do this test she ocudltn try dietary changes, which is stupid, surley they should ahve tried that first?

my dd2 has had this and was only 18 months old at the time. They went through the risks of the procedure and they are tiny... (1 in 100,000 sort of odds of problem). She was home several hours after having it, and at the hospital we were at (GOSH) they only use heavy sedation not a GA.

If there is a camera 'up', they must be looking for something besides coeliac disease. DS had a negative blood test, but is due for a biopsy soon. My experience (with a local) was unpleasant, and I had a sore throat for a few days, but nothing to panic about. Perforation is a very small risk, and the consequences are not serious anyway (they told me).
