Before xmas i had a really sore tongue...tiny red dots, swollen. Felt like I had burned it but hadnt. Doc said response to a virus.

had a sore tongue afew times since then this week i have a sore tongue again, and swolen gums - tongue is most sore where it touches sore gums.

Docs have given me antibiotics but aren't sure at all. am using oraldene (incase of gingivitus). Had dentist appointment today - didn't think it was gingivitus, did xrays - no damage or infection to teeth etc and suggested that it may be an allergy.

Advice needed.
I have had a mildly sore tongue every few weeks since december - then this week it is worse accompanied by gums. If it IS an allergy, then I have no idea what! It must be something I eat quite regular but must be a reasonably mild allergy. I also get tingly lips too.....

After all this waffle, what i am asking you allergy experts is: what are the likely or possible culprits? i am planning to finish my course of antibiotics and make sure all is ok then start a food diary.

I do not have an allergies - apart from mild hayfever and cats - and i haven't had flowers or cats in my mouth.
PMSL

Any help appreciated!

hi there
nearly finished antibiotics now and tongue feels great but gums still a bit sore.

dentist said it wasn't a dental problem - did xrays etc....

robinw - thanks for the info about the additives - didn't think of that!

Thanks again robin and bloss for your responses!

this sound bizarre but does stella artois have anything in it that i could be allergic to?

I get a sore tongue as you describe when I eat pineapple or similar fruits. I find that if I then eat something like a yoghurt straight away it stops hurting.

will explain my bizarre stella artois comment from last night

I have been trying to work out if i could be allergic to something.

Tongue has been great since last week - better than it has been in ages.

Then we went out for tea, had a half pint of stella and within 30 mins my tongue was tingling. I dont have stella very often at all but it also coinceides with the onset of the bad symptoms of the beginning of last week....I had more that half a pint then.
And it coincides with just before Christmas.....
hmmm

I think my DH is allergic to stella - if he drinks it he get loud, wobbly and falls over a lot.

Sorry, popsy! There's no reason you can't be allergic to it I guess. I assume it's not all alchohol? My mum gets all sneezy with alcohol sometimes as it happens. Not all alcohol and not every time though.

i am fine with bread and seem ok with others beers...

It is the only thing i can think of that is the common denominator of all the symptoms that i get....

Look at the bottle, are you like this with any other lager at all? There maybe one chemical in Stella, i think its the same one that makes men fight and wee on street corners. Don't quote me on that though, not quite ready to publish the book.
