Vegetarian, coeliac, and now lactose intolerant

Hi everyone, I've been vegetarian for years and my work means that I would really struggle to going back to eating meat or fish.

I was diagnosed as a coeliac 3 years ago and despite a GF diet my symptoms didn't resolve. I'm also B12 deficient so having injections. After lots of tests my consultant suspects okay have permanent lactose intolerance and I'm on an exclusion diet.

This means lots of processed foods (GF bread etc) are out unless I make them from scratch.

I'm constantly knackered, stomach upsets etc and have to work long hours so cooking from scratch is tough, and eating out or dinner with friends is pretty much impossible. I'm worried that I'm becoming a social pariah and that others see my health issues as 'faddy'. Sad

I'm essentially looking at considering eating meat (something which would be incredibly difficult for me) or being a gluten-free dairy-free vegetarian which will be difficult for me and everyone else.

Any words of wisdom please?

I'm afraid I don't have any wisdom, but I am a vegetarian and coeliac too. One of my friends is anaphylaxic to dairy and we do manage to eat together. We don't tend to eat out much but I don't think we would even if we could eat anything!

People who don't take your health seriously are not your friends!

I hope you feel better soon.

Lactofree milk and lactase enzyme pills are what keep me going. Might they be worth a try?

Thanks both that's really helpful. Just feeling pretty down this evening - terrible nights sleep last night, ill all day today but had to work, and been slumped between bed and bathroom since I got home at 6.30.
My DP just got home and gave me a big hug Smile
I'll look into the lactase Posh where did you get it from?

I have used quest lactase biotic and Lamberts lactase complex. There are quite a lot to choose from, I am lucky to have a good independent health food shop where I live who are very helpful and knowledgeable
