Being sick after eating cucumber. Is this an allergy?

Hello,

My ds, age 5, had some slices of cucumber at a party yesterday. While he was eating it I saw him gag and asked him why he thought he gagged, but he said he didn't know. He stopped eating it after that. He seemed fine except I did notice a unusual redness above his top lip.

Last night he was sick all over his bed (around midnight). He had complained of a sore tummy before going to bed. This morning he seems absolutely fine.

A few years ago he was sick while eating cucumber and has not eaten it again until yesterday. I had asked him not to eat it because I had noticed him gagging on it and thought he was having difficulty eating it because of the skin. And he has never been keen on eating it at home with the skin removed.

Do you think he could be allergic to cucumber?

Possibly, yes.

You need to tell the doctor, and ask their advice.

The same family of plants also contains courgettes, melons and pumpkins (the gourds).

thank you. I was not sure if the doctor would do anything other than say don't let him eat cucumber.

I will phone the doctor and see what he says
