Allergic reaction? (contains TMI in parts)

Completely out of the blue yesterday I had two serious episodes of diarrhoea within 30 minutes, followed by feeling very tired and yawning constantly.

This passed in a couple of hours and I was then fine, but I woke up this morning with several large, hard, itchy, red lumps on my upper arms and these have increased throughout the day and spread to my back and shoulders.

The itching is intense and it has not responded to oral anti-histamine.

Is this an allergic reaction to something. I've never had anything like this before.

What do I do? Is it likely to happen again and get more serious?

sounds like spider bites, had similar once, lasted months!

RockinD · 28/09/2014 10:09

Spider bites? really? When I have had a shower and changed my clothes and the bloody things are still coming up?

I would sit down and write a list of everything you did and ate yesterday.

It does sound like a reaction to food. I had a very fast reaction to eggs, right out of the blue, about 3 years ago. They went right through me within about 40 mins of eating them. It was easier to work out as I have other food allergies, anyway, and I'd had chips and an omelette for lunch that day (skiing holiday). Bent over with cramps etc. Awful - just awful.

I get very very sleepy if I eat any sort of wheat, too.

I'd get yourself to your GP this week, but keep a food diary of everything - absolutely everything - that passes your lips meanwhile.

Were you in contact with any chemicals - are you redecorating or something like that?

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 28/09/2014 10:23

How are you today OP? Hope the rash has gone down.

Agree that talking to your GP would be good.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 28/09/2014 10:25

Rockin, do you normally exclude gluten or anything else from your diet? Could you have eaten something that you normally don't?

RockinD · 28/09/2014 18:45

Thanks people.

I'd eaten my standard breakfast of porridge, blueberries and banana, a slice of cake for the Macmillan Coffee Morning (charity cake so no calories) and a standard lunch of tuna salad (made by me) and a yoghurt.

The lumps are even bigger today. Very itchy and oral anti histamine has no effect whatsoever.

Agree - need to get myself to the doctor.

Thankfully Wine seems OK Smile

Oh, sounds very nasty! Glad you are alright in yourself and breathing etc. unaffected. Hope you can find out what caused it!

My reaction to eggs came out of the blue - I had no warning at all.

Apart from seeing your GP, keep a note of what you eat.
