If your LO has a nut allergy or intolerance, what are the symptoms?

DD doesn't have a nut allergy as far as we know, but does have multiple other allergies. Dietician has recommended we give her nuts. I'm just wondering what symptoms I should look out for and which is the best nut to start with?

I'd be wary of doing this without some guidance.

Nut allergy symptoms can be a range, like other allergies. Could be a rash/hives, some itching in the mouth/tongue, swelling around the mouth and lips up to more serious symptoms.

Perhaps the Anaphylaxis Campaign can help with advice on this?

Have they RAST tested her? My dd has tested positive to peanuts despite having never eaten them. Presumably she had traces through breastmilk and via the placenta in order to trigger a positive RAST but she's never eaten then directly so we don't know how she'd react.

It might be worth requesting with a multi allergic child - my DD has multiple allergies too and her overall IgE was very high, hence the peanut testing.

She's had skin prick tests and they show an all clear for everything. Maybe I should wait off. Her allergies are delayed allergies (so symptoms don't show up immediately)

does she eat 'may contain nuts' items ok? how old is she. with nuts we have pretty much instant reaction with swelling etc.

I'd be pretty cautious. How old is she?

ShineSmile · 23/06/2014 20:36

12 months. She does have may contain nuts and seems fine.
