Does this sound like dairy allergy/intolerance?

DS2 is 6 months and has recently started weaning. He's bf and when he was younger I went through a stage of eating loads of cheese which seemed to disagree with him (lots of wind, seemed to have tummy ache and sleep was awful). Cut right back on dairy and it settled down. DS1 has also had problems with dairy since cows milk was introduced around 1. Because of both of these things I was going to wait a while before introducing dairy to DS2.

However, on Saturday a friend looked after him for a few hours and gave him yoghurt (she thought he'd already had it - it was a genuine mistake). Saturday night he was really unsettled. Yesterday he slept the vast majority of the day and in the afternoon started with a runny nose and sneezing (poss just a cold?). Last night was awful - really restless, sounds really congested, lots of wind and seemed really uncomfortable.

Does this sound like it could be to do with dairy? Or am I reading too much into things?

Sounds like it could be a diary allergy - particularly with the family history and the reaction when you ate dairy while feeding.

Go to the doctor and get him allergy tested so they can advise you - i wouldn't just start cutting dairy from his diet as it is such an important food group for small children.

HHH3 the restlessness and wind sound similar to DS' cows milk intolerance.

As I introduced formula again and started solids at 6 months (combination fed for first 3 months and had severe colic), DS became increasingly difficult to handle - required two people to bathe him, change nappies etc. At night it seemed like he had trapped wind and would writhe around for hours on end. Sometimes he was fairly placid, but would be awake. Pharmacist suggested Colief which gave immediate improvements. La Leche League suggested more likely to be milk protein intolerence. Referral to paed via GP confirmed MPI. He can have cooked milk (ie as part of a recipe), or cheese, but raw cheese, cows milk and yogs etc are a prob. Currently trying to get him on Nutimagen which is bleurgh, but he likes Oatley - I mix the cream and milk (with added calcium, not the organic version) to get fat content similar to full fat cows milk. That at least gives my boobs a rest. BiscuitBiscuit Or should that be TennisTennis?!

BTW, soya milk proteins similar in size to cows milk protein, so not worth substituting for. Also, apparently, though plenty will disagree, same goes for size of protein for goat and sheep milk, which I am told also honk like hell. So prob best avoided!!
