Hi all
I posted last week about possible eczema on DS's face (20mo). He had a very dry chin and a few spots on his cheeks. I saw the GP who dismissed the spots as just spots really, compared them to milk spots in a baby. And the dy patches were healing ok so we put it down to dribble rash. Told me to just moisturise his face, no recomendation for specific cream.
So the dry patch has returned on his chin, not crusty but getting there. And he has a small very dry patch on his eyebrow. He is still quite spotty on one cheek.
I have been using oilatum on and off for ages with no reaction. This morning I put it on quite liberally over his whole forehad as the patch on his eyebrow had spread to the bridge of his nose. Within seconds the whole area where I had applied it had turned red and hot. Looked like he'd been slapped. It was very noticable as he is very pale skinned. I freaked and washed it off, took about half an hour to go completely.
Is this a common allergy? Am very anxious and sensitive about allergies as I have good skin but DH has battled eczema his whole life and his mother was incredibly anxious about it when he was small. These anxieties have transferred to me and I am obsessed by the thought DS might turn out the same way. He showed no signs of any allergy until at least 18 mo when these patches appeared.
What should I do next? Everyone close to me tells me I am nuts for worrying - if he went red from oilatum, stop using oilatum. simple. But I can't help seeing this as the start of something bigger :(
And what other cream should I try on his dry patches?
Thanks
