Washing powder for 4 month old with excema?

My four month old girl has excema, even with all the lotions and potions I'm using that the Dr gave me, she still has a red, itchy rash. I've noticed her scratching her belly when I dress her. I'm using Bold 2 in 1 and Lenor softener, but I'm thinking maybe this is causing a reaction.
Could anyone recommend any powder/liquid that they use?

Have you tried non-bio powders? My son had excema on his face when a baby and toddler eventually a steroid cream cleared it up, re-occured on the back of his knees (especially when he wore shorts in the summer) would have to re-apply occasionally.

I found Persil non bio excellent for my son who has sensitive skin and severe allergies ;)

we use fairy non bio but more importantly, ditch the softener now, it irritates a lot of eczema babies. made as huge difference to Ds . I haven't used softener for 3 years and I swear there is no difference in the clothes!

Fileti is excellent for sensitve skin. Also Persil Non-bio Original formulation- make sure it s the Original. Lenor does a sensitive skin conditioner which is endorsed by the British Allergy Founation and as a bonus smells lovely.

Actually though, you will get lots of of different recommendations. Apparently there is little science to support the claim that non bio is better for eczema sufferers than bio formulations. Instead it is other ingredients within washing powders/lquids than people react to, e.g. Perfume. It really is a case of trial and error to a large extent and is why get lots of different answers to the question.

I found I could not use any fabric conditionr even sensitive but agree with IHeartKingThistle that it actually makes no real difference. When DS was very small and very sensitive I even found the main brand non bios would irritate. Eventually found Simple tabs non bio or sensitive which were great and environmentally friendly plus they washed really well. They've been harder to get hold of in teh last year from my usual supermarket but I find he can cope with any non bio now and excema is not such a problem as he's got older. We used to have to wash sheets at holiday homes and take sheets to hotels as it would just inflame it so much. The cream I found worked best was Epaderm.

When my 2 were small the HV recommended persil non-bio

Aldi non bio powder is really good on sensitive skin, together with fairy fabric softener - the one with the little baby on it.

I personally would go for a non bio one and add an extra rinse cycle.

Another idea is to put all clothes in a wet bucket of nappisan (available from Tesco) and then run in a normal wash cycle with no powder at all afterwards.

Hello, my ds has to use perfume free washing powder. A doctor recomended Boots own brand washing powder to me. It says on the box that it is suitable for Eczema sufferers.

I have been using the Boots washing powder and fabric conditioner for a couple of years now and would never use anything else.

Extra rinse

We use fairy non-bio. Persil causes a rash in lots if people, myself included. I have never been able to use Bold 2 in 1 either.

Thanks everyone, I'll give the non bio a try and stop using softener. The Doctor gave me doublebase gel and oilatum for the bath, but I could never tell if they were working because of the rash. It just breaks my heart thinking it is my fault she is in pain :(

Surcare powder or liquid and extra rinse cycle. Also, put a cup of water on a shelf in the bedroom and turn the radiator off. If it's really cold, turn the radiator on for an hour or so before bed then turn it back off. Central heating dries the skin out.

We use Liquid Soap flakes from either Waitrose or Tesco. Anything else brings up my LO's ecczema - even Surcare.

One other thing to note - it can take up to ten washes to clear existing soaps from your washing machine. We really noticed this after we moved to a rented house and had to start again!!

Hi all, just wanted to update you on my daughters progress. I switched to fairy non bio and her skin is much better, she doesn't have any of the red blotches anymore and she is much softer.

Yeah, dairyfreebabyandme it did take about 10/15 washes to get rid of everything out of the washing machine and clothes.
