I'm trying to find the thread with the vegan choc cake....HELP!

Hi everyone,

I remember a while ago someone posted about a vegan chocolate cake which was supposed to be delicious! Does anyone remember or have the recipe?

Its my DH's birthday on Sunday and I promised my DD (allergic to milk, egg and nuts) that we would make a choc cake so that she could help her daddy to blow out the candles. We made a vegan choc cake in April for my DD's birthday and it was rotten. It had bananas in it as a substitute and tasted horrible :( so it would be good to make something that is actually nice!

As an aside, every time we make cakes or pancakes which are vegan my DD never bloomin eats them, but I'm so scared that she asks for a bit of the cake and it isnt safe for her - I hate having to say no to her because of her allergies.

Thanks trixy - is it really nice? Does it taste obviously vegan? I think my family are fed up with me trying to get them to eat not every nice substitutes so that my DD can try it too and be safe around us...think they think I should just not bother :(

It is nice. Can I also recommend Betty crocker icing you buy in tubs in the supermarket, it's also dairy and egg free

Hi Haverina! We have our LO's first birthday on Tuesday and I've been baking in preparation. The winner in our house - passes for a 'normal' cake - is Mary Berry's chocolate Victoria sponge using egg replacer instead of eggs. I'm going to try the chocolate fudge Betty crocker frosting with some White dairy free chocolate buttons from Tesco or possibly some Dr Oetker wafer daisies if I feel more girly on the day. The vanilla BC frosting was a bit sickly according to DS5 . I think his palate has been ruined from all that nutramigen as a baby :-)

Hope it goes well - nice birthday cakes feel important when there's lots of compromising don't they :)

Mamado, thanks so much for sending me the link. Can I ask, what is your Double Chocolate Chip Cake with Fluffy White Buttercream like? Does it pass for a decent cake i.e. does it taste like it is egg free?!

I think it's really successful - not at all dry and crumbly, and it has a big choc hit - even my dp liked it and he doesn't normally like any sweet things I make . I usually make a Giorgio Locatetti cake for my dds birthdays but might change to this one as his is quite dry...

it would also work really well with choc buttercream (somewhere there, you'd need to search!), or the ganache style icing on the chocoholic cupcakes

I ended up making this which is pretty similar to your recommendation trixy. It was really lovely. Everyone said they would never know that it was vegan and the glaze on top was very very good. Result! I will make it again, maybe as cup cakes.

Mamado I have bookmarked your page and plan on cooking far more things for my DD - I am inspired from the success of the cake!!! Thanks everyone.
