In Wednesday's Independent there was an article about being a vegan and it contained a recipe for chocolate cake - no eggs and no dairy. I cooked it (with 'help' from DS!) It is really good. Uses no special ingredients - just used storecupboard food. I can't get a link to work from the Independent so you can see it too.
It could be converted to use rice flour if gluten is a problem.
