Dairy & egg free meat/fish paste/pate recipes?

My DS is allergic to eggs and cow's milk protein. He hates hummus and any other veggie spreads I've tried and I've been struggling to find sandwich fillings for him as he'll just pick any ham etc out. However, my MIL gave him meat paste the other day and he loved it. Am not crazy on those little jars as I always question the quality of the meat so would love to make my own but any recipes but any I've found require butter/eggs/cream. Am happy to replace the butter for vitalite and can get soy cream but wondered if anyone had any tried and tested recipes? Thanks in advance!

I don't have any recipes as such, being a rubbish cook, but I sympathise with your predicament as I have a DS allergic to wheat and legumes as well as eggs and milk, and I need to pack lunches for him to take to nursery during the summer. I've found that he loves Tesco's brussels pate, which amazingly doesn't have any major allergens in it (the only one I've found after extensive searching). You could perhaps also try mashing some tinned mackerel in tomato sauce and spreading it onto bread? Or trying some smoked mackerel (an unexpected hit with DS). HTH

Mackerel is a great idea - and will get some pate to try too. Thanks!

Not nice enough to call it a pate probably :) but DD (amazingly) loves mashed up tinned sardines (sonetimes) with a bit of lemon juice and oil... I feel good about giving her the whole ones with the bones and all their lovely calcium. Confession time though she also liked the little pot chicken paste which like you I'm not ecstatic about- I think probably cos it was super salty!

Sardines and mackerel are sounding like the way to go. Thanks!
