What is the blood test for gluten/celiac disease called?

I had a blood test last week on Tuesday and amongst other things I was being tested for celiac disease.

I have called the surgery and they have told me that all the tests are fine, but when I ask about the celaic one they say they can't see that one. One of the ladies I spoke to didn't know what that was as she said she hadn't seen one of those before. I think I usually get the receptionists so maybe they're not familiar with all the various tests.

So I'm wondering if I'm asking the wrong thing. The GP did a test before but I hadn't been eating any gluten foods at the time. So he has agreed to do the test again as I have been eating it for a good couple of months.

I was also tested for vit d, thyoxine levels, rhumatoid factors, arthritic factors, blood count, kidney function, liver function plus the gluten/celiac test.

Can someone help me with what I should be asking for re the celiac test, please?

Many Thanks in advance and apologies if I have the terminology all confused.

Sorry, would like to help but can't. We called it the 'coeliac' test when asking for results at our GP and the receptionist knew what we meant. Can you make an appointment wtih your GP to go through the results?

Ds2 has just been discharged from hospital and had a blood test for coeliac and it says TTG bloods on his discharge x x

alibobins is right, it's called a Ttg test

freefrommum · 28/06/2012 16:53

By the way, anything under 10 is considered 'normal'.

Thanks everyone.

I hope this finds you your DC all well.

I called today and actually spoke to the lady who does the blood tests - phlebota-something-ist,

She said that she'd chase up the hospital as they would have expected the results back by now. She said that if the nurse had forgotten to request this when she took the bloods then I'd have to go back to have another test.

Anyway, thanks again and it's good to know what I'm asking for next time I ring.

Not sure if this is helpful at all, but the results for coeliac blood tests can take up to 3 weeks to come back at our local hospital.

Thanks tkband3. That is helpful. :)

I'm still waiting to hear whether it was requested or whether i need to go back for another blood test.

I think it'll be 3 weeks tomorrow so will call the surgery in a couple of days time to check.
