Hello

I'm not sure if you know why this might be happening but I've tried making some vegan chocolate cakes 3 times now and each time they have a really odd smell/taste. It's almost like garlic but I don't understand why :(

I'm using Doves plain flour and bourneville cocoa powder. I've tried these with olive oil and also sunflower oil, with and without the vinegar, but it's the same smell/taste each time.

I have been baking with this flour making biscuits for at least 3 years and am so confused about why this is happening.

Is there something in the Doves Wheat Free/Gluten Free plain flour that doesn't work with chocolate?

I'm so disappointed as these particular cakes look so so yummy and are a really good texture but just taste really odd.

Can anyone help please?

I expect Im pointing out the obvious but you arent using utensils or bowls etc that you used to chop garlic?

Can you not use regular cocoa powder (does that have wheat in?) because I have an excellent choc cake recipe that def doesnt taste garlicky...

Hi there. We haven't had garlic in the house for a few years. The bourneville cocoa is a normal 100% cocoa and one of the only ones that dont have any nut warnings.
Would you be happy to share your recipe? We can't have eggs or legumes so would your one be ok?
Thanks for your help :)
