Apparently we are only allwed 1.
they are not allowed to prescribe more than one.
As a newly diagnosed nut and egg allergy sufferer DS2 needs more than one, we are not just renewing a prescription we are starting from scratch.

According to our training if the ablulance hasn't arrived after 15 minutes and the first dose hasnt worked I am to give a 2nd dose BUT I AM ONLY ALLOWED 1 Jext junior pen!!!!!!!

tis beyond stupid!!!

what to do now??

Just been googling Andrew Lansley is a local MP, is it worth banging a drum or am I over reacting?

No MP good idea! My uncle is an MP and him and my auny tell me to 'contact your local MP!' at every woe I have. Ive not yet felt the need but if I were you I absolutely would.

Sunshinenow · 10/05/2012 19:43

Andrew Lansley is especially good to contact! Grin

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 10/05/2012 20:42

have also contacted Jext. Think they would be interested to know and may be able to pressure things a bit from the other side.

It's crazy how something that is essentially a life saving necessity is at the mercy of the postcode lottery.

I know it's wrong to lie, but could you say you've lost the other one, while you were out and please could you have another one? I don't condone lying at all but sometimes needs must!

Could you alternatively, buy one privately? Might be worth doing that just for your own peace of mind.

mumat39 · 10/05/2012 21:02

Also, can you raise this with your allergy clinic? Maybe they could prescribe you another one?

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 10/05/2012 21:04

thanks Mumat39
I have left a message with the Allergy consultant we saw on Tuesday. I don't think he has any idea that he is recommending something that the GP won't prescribe.

Just to add it's (most) school/nursery guidelines to have 2 epipens on site for the child with allergies and they prefer them to stay on site rather than travel etc...so we have two at home and school have two....not sure how different the jext junior problem is, but can't see the policy being that different???.

bloggingmamatotwo · 10/05/2012 21:10

Problem is actually a typo....sorry can't even think what word it was meant to be.... :)

Meglet · 10/05/2012 21:15

We have five (Hampshire). 2 at school, 2 at home and one spare which I chuck in my handbag if we are off to the corner shop or a short walk distance from the main kit.

You have to have at least one more.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 10/05/2012 21:15

I think it is a local pct thing rather than a Jext thing.. just a complete pita.

the 2 epipens is what our school has asked for! I felt like a total numbnut saying it wasn't possible and he had to bring it home with him each day

I got 4 sets of 2 first time around, I'm now better at remembering them and have reduced our number of sets.

In the meantime - to avert your discomfort, could you tell him you lost it and get another one :D

What do other allergic people do in your area? Sounds utterly mad!

I've had the needle break on ours too so needed the second one - oh I hope you get this sorted but in the meantime, lie, cheat steal to make sure you have two!

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 15/05/2012 09:18

have told lies.. we now have 2
dh and I have agreed that at the point we are challenged on our lies we will tell the truth about why we have lied.

thanks for all your support folks.

Thank goodness for that. Shouldn't have to resort to lying but if that's what it takes to keep your child safe then so be it!
