How do I know if DD has allergic eczema or atopic eczema?

Hello, DD is 4.5 and has had food allergies since she was 6.5 months old.

Reading a few other posts on MN, I'm wondering which sort of eczema she has. Her eczema has never been that visible, but she does get the red weepy patches on the creases of the arms and knees and wrists. These appear every so often and don't seem to have a pattern, but she is a very itchy thing. She seems to have more itchy skin in the summer when she also gets hayfever. But she still has eczema in the winter months so how do I know which one she has?

I'm sorry if this is a daft question. Her next annual appointment is in August so I'll ask then but wondered if it makes a difference in how it is treated?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

DD has mild atopic eczema. I'm no expert, but we saw the doctor yesterday and he said with atopic it can flare up at random times with no explanation. So from what you've said, it sounds like atopic.

The doctor asked me yesterday "how much do you actually know about eczema?" So it's probably best to ignore anything I say.
