Can egg allergic ds handle a baby chick?

Apparently they will hatch a chick in the classroom. I think he's stroked chicks before, but not held one or touched one that's quite recently hatched? Will it have egg residue on it???? And for how long?
His allergy is quite bad, but only on ingestion of egg, not contact or shells.
Any ideas??

Ds held a chick when he was little and allergic to eggs and would react to skin contact (has outgrown that allergy now). He had no problems but chick wasn't newly hatched ie it was a few days old, I think.

Thanks for your replies. It's an odd one isn't it, but reassured he can do it now :)
