Severe milk allergy and Aptimal Pepti?

Hi Ive started meeting up with someone whos baby has a milk intolerance. My son has quite a serious milk allergy. She fed her baby Aptimal Pepti when he was here. I was wondering is this safe for my baby? The reason I ask is, some of the milk dropped on the floor, he played with some toys after and they went to his mouth. I washed them and the floor after because we werent sure, but it'd be nice to know if its ok for babies with serious milk allergies so next time they come by I dont have to worry about washing the toys etc after.

Never used it myself but I'm pretty sure Aptamil Pepti is safe for babies with CMP allergy as it's a hydrolsed formula like Nutramigen. Hopefully one of the other MNers on here will have a more definitive answer for you.

My DS has been on Aptamil Pepti for over a year, and he is touch-allergic to milk. Apparently it is quite rare for even a cow's milk allergic baby to react to Pepti. However, it also contains fish oil which obviously is not great for some babies.
I'm no scientist, but as far as I know a truly allergic reaction (not an intolerance) is triggered by the protein in a food being 'attacked' by antibodies on mast cells, which then release histamine which in turn cause the reaction. So that's why it would be the protein he's allergic to. Intolerances are caused by other things such as the inability to produce the enzyme lactase to digest the sugar lactose, for example. Not sure if that answers your question, though!

That totally answers my question thank you!

I don't know if its the same stuff they gave us when I found out DD was allergic to CMP, but it didn't agree with her at all. But apparently its quite unusual for a reaction to be seen.
