Advice on home trial for dairy

After being at allergy clinic in nov with ds we have finally received blood test results & the go ahead for a home trial with dairy as skin prick & blood both negative. Letter from hospital just says doctor happy enough for us to try but doesn't give advice on what to start off with or how often to introduce something. Have phoned & left message & they will contact me within a few days but any advise/experiences welcome in the meantime. Thanks

when we did a home baked egg challenge (which dd2 sadly failed) we were told to follow the same procedure as a hospital based challenge. So the idea is you start by smearing a tiny bit on lips and then waiting at least half an hour checking for signs of reaction, then ingest a tiny bit and wait again. Next about double the amount before, all the way up to a full size portion (for egg it was a whole cupcake). Just make sure you leave gaps and stop at the FIRST sign of any reaction.

Good luck!

Thanks mamadoo sorry your dd2 failed. Have you been allowed to try again? This is not going to be good for my nerves lol!

We've since been advised not to try again due to a rather large wheal at the following skin prick test! Don't worry, you'll be fine. You know ds far better than anyone else and will notice any sign of a reaction straight away. I'd say if you get even a hint of anything (eg hives) stop straight away. With dd2 I thought I noticed a hint of a hive but carried on - big mistake as the results were rather explosive!!!

Exciting that you may get somewhere though!

I was given advice a couple of years ago that I should give DD quarter of a teaspoon petit filou for a couple of days, then increase to half teaspoon, a teaspoon, quarter of a pot, half a pot etc over a number of days. I never followed it up tho as DDs blood tests were still positive for milk.

If you do try at home I would make sure I had piriton to hand and as already suggested start by just touching the skin or lips before getting your ds to actually eat any.

Good luck

Thanks mintyneb dr from hospital phd & we are going in for hospital trial instead on 29th feb so I'm pleased about that. Not too long to wait & in the right place if anything happens.
