Potted history (DD) 4Y/O has am egg allergy (not anaphylactic but atopic and ingested), and a penicilin allergy (severe). Her half sister has was anaphylactic to nuts (Addenbrooks) and is allergic to fluffy things, grasses, HDM etc.
We have been avoiding eggs for 2 years but have stuck with sponge cake in moderation as she tolerates it. At the weekend she hurtled into me and got some sponge cake batter on her had. I washed her hand and waited for the hives but none appeared.
Do you think the batter was too dilute (2 eggs) or could we be turning a corner? I am not keen to have her RAST tested again as she is also allergic to atopic skin numb cream like Emler / Ametop so we cannot anaethetise her skin and she is only 4.... We found this when she had surgery and they put the cream on before the needles and she had a horrific skin reaction.
I have had to do food challenges with her before after her nuts tests came back negative and they wanted to be 100% but do not want to trawl back into the hospital setting again. However, do not advocate irresponsible testing either.
Does anyone have experience of this progression? What did you do?
TIA
