What are your DCs allergic to?

Just wondering whether it is rare to have an allergy to more than five foods, and whether there are any links between certain types of allergy (e.g. is an egg allergy usually accompanied by a nut allergy?).
My DS is allergic to milk, wheat, eggs, sesame and lentils and we have just discovered he is also allergic to peas.

mumat39 (and others with DCs with multiple allergies) i'm so sorry you have such a lot to deal with on day to day basis. You were wondering about packed lunches for your DD once she starts school?

It sounds like you should be able to knock something up fairly easily from what your DD can eat. You could make the obvious sandwiches with fruit and plain crisps, carrot sticks etc. Cold pasta or rice salads with meat.

My DD (4.9) is in reception now and thanks to allergies and fussiness she pretty much has ham or chicken sandwiches every day with grapes and cucumber and a packet of crisps, oh and a homemade cake or other goodie! She doesn't seem too bothered about it :)

DD is allergic to CMP, probably peanuts (RAST test was negative but abidec vitamin drops based on peanut oil gave her excema), plasters, some cats and also has hayfever.

She also won't eat raw tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries or pineapple but that could just be down to taste rather than anything more sinister

Hi mumat39. My DS2 is not allergic to wheat any more, so our situation is hugely improved. I found that one really tough when combined with everything else.

He doesn't start school until August, but if we're going anywhere that he needs a packed lunch for, I do the following:-

Ham Sandwiches
Tortilla wraps with ham or chicken
Wide mouth flask with home made soup, or spag bol mixed together
Fruit smoothies (Ella's kitchen so no dairy)

For other meal ideas, basically just home cooked everything using Oat milk and Pure spread. I make chicken/steak pies, mild curries, chicken wrapped in bacon, pasta & tuna with ketchup instead of mayo. I found nut free pesto so need to try that out.

All meals are really meat, veg and potatoes. The only real variations are pasta, baked beans etc. His favourite lunch is salami and potatoes.

I really feel for you with having all those allergies Sad.

Hi Garliclover, although I have listed many times in my other posts I thought I should list my ds's allergies here-

Dairy
Eggs
Nuts(almond, cashew, pistachios, peanuts)
Pulses ( red lentils but nit to yellow lentils, been asked to avoid all other pulses)
Chickpeas
Sesame
Corn
Wheat

He had a recent check up when it was found that he had Small reactions to cooked tomatoes and avocado . I also suspect green beans, bean sprouts and courgettes. But it was too much to be tested at one sitting so couldn't do it this time.

he however, tested negative to coconut, oats and peas which were suspected previously.( Thank God for that). But he has not been tested for everything so I don't knowwhat else he could be allergic to. I keep giving him the same food again and again just like mumat39. I am too scared to try new food.

My DS2 now 11 has had allergies since he was 1.He was allergic to eggs, milk, almonds, peanuts as well as dust mites, silver birch pollen, grass, mold, dogs, cats, rabbits, and has oral allergy syndrome to some fruits and veg.
He outgrew milk and egg recently and then almonds a couple of months ago.
He is still allergic to peanuts .

DS is allergic to Eggs, nuts(all), sesame, fish and seafood.
We have also had a reaction to blue food colouring.
He is apparently allergic to dust according to the rast tests but seems fine at home.

I am allergic to furry animals, so dogs cats etc guinea pigs and rabbits are particularly bad.

DD as far as we know is not allergic to anything.

buttonmoon78 · 18/01/2012 10:26

DS2 has suspected allergies to apples, pears and dairy. Also possibly allergic/intolerant to/of wheat (much more delayed reaction). He's only 6m so we've just been referred for skin prick testing as we've no idea what else there may be. I think the one they're going to test first is egg as well as confirming the others.

DD2 & DS1 are (only) intolerant of wholewheat although DD2 seems to be outgrowing it at 11 (yay!). DD1 is allergic to latex.

Happy days!

Hello, DD (2.5) is allergic to:

CMP
Eggs
Peanut
Sesame
Tree nuts
Shellfish
Kiwi

She has had positive skin pricks to all of the above with previous severe reactions to cow's milk, kiwi, cashew and egg and minor reactions to peanut and sesame. There was also an unexplained anaphylactic reaction at the childminder's which has put us on edge somewhat...
She has slight eczema and is on a preventer inhaler for her asthma.

HattiFattner · 19/01/2012 14:52

ds1:

Milk and eggs (up to 4-5 years, outgrown)

now: cats, dust, grass pollen (asthmatic)

Also reacts badly to bio- washing powder (horrible hives)
