Hi all, just a quick question. My ds is 1 and along with cmp allergy and a number of other food allergies he has eczema which is ok now. I wanted to colour my hair but I am still breast feeding. Will colouring my hair affect my milk and/or will it somehow flare up his eczema???

It is normally safe to colour your hair while breastfeeding. You do probably absorb a few chemicals, but the amount passed through to your breastmilk is minimal. You can minimise the chemicals you absorb by using gloves, not leaving the dye on too long etc.

I'd be very surprised if there was any CMP or other food allergens in hair dye, but it's always worth checking the ingredients.

My son also has CMP and other food allergies, and eczema (which is currently well under control). I have dyed my hair many times while still breastfeeding him (he is now 3 years old) and he has not been affected. Obviously, all children are different, but I hope this reassures you a bit.

If you want further reassurance, you could try calling the Drugs in Breastmilk Helpline (0844 412 4665) - I know hair dye is not exactly a drug, but the pharmacist who answers questions from breastfeeding mums is very clued-up about what does and does not pass into breastmilk.
