My dS has had bad excema since he was 6 weeks old, we are under a consultant etc and have successfully managed to control it on his body. However, for the last 2 months , he has has intense itching on his head and at the back of his neck.We have always washed his hair in aqueous solution and clean water and this has worked well until now. When we tried shampoos- it made his had flare up in a crusty excema. Has anyone got any advice on what we can try washing his hair with?? We tried expensive herbal shampoos but these made his head react as well. What do mums out there use whose babies have excema?? Thanks

my son is the same age and to be honest i have hardly ever washed his hair. I just wet it everytime he has a bath and this has kept it clean. As a result of this his head has been much better.

I'd wash his hair rarely, and maybe only with water?

I don't know much about excema, but I'm assuming you've checked for nits? They're pretty common at this time of year, and would explain the sudden change ...

I also don't wash ds's hair often and then just try and do it with water. I still find that he is intensly itchy on the back of his neck and has scratched it to ribbons , so I am of now help really, lol!

thank you for your responses, Heartmum2Jamie have you found any triggers for the back of the neck scratching? My son also scratches his neck to ribbons and I don't know why this has just started in the last couple of months. I tried Johnsons tonight am will closely monitor the effect- oitherwise will try just water like some of you advised.

My ds has eczema (8 months) and has been itching his scalp since we started putting oilatum or balneum in his bath. Have tried various creams to help with the itching but all made it worse. Rinsed his head with water after his bath yesterday and...no more itching. It's definitely worth a try.

My son now 18 months also has very bad ezcema.Recently he scalp has also been very itchy, since I live in Singapore for him to have this problem is due to the hot weather and also when I take him to the public pool. I believe it;s the cholrine in the water that cause this.
What I do is wash him hair with this wash call Hospigel which I find is very good . Wash with warm water to relief the itch.

As this is a multi-purpose water it can be use for the body as well on ezcema babies.

See it you can get this in your Pharmacy.
