My ds is now 13months old. I am still breastv feeding him andd want to try and give up soon or at least have the opportunity for someone else to give him his milk. Hes not that great from taking it from a cup. ( will drink juice an dwater from one) has never had a bottle. Hes on the 0.4 -2nd centile having been ill. he started on the 95th. so need calories in him. Weve tried nutrimigen and are now trying pepti. doesnt seem to like either. I do express and give him that which he will take but not a lot of calories there. Hes also severley constipated so fluids are important. im in the uk. so if peeps have any other suggestions i will be greatful. His dietician is not keen on soya although i was a soya baby. sorry to waffle. any help greatfully recieved. thanks donnaxx

sorry, does he have a cows milk allergy?
have you tried goats milk?

Epiffany · 01/12/2005 20:33

ask for paediasure
we had it for dd who had a genetic condition that caused low weight gain
It really helped
it is a flavoured milkshake and actually has enough in it to be a sole source of nutrition (not that you would) we used it between 1-2 cartons per day
dd loved it much more than other supplementation and as it has a protein base far more effective at plopping weight on.

we now use goats milk after dd (now 3) developed an intolerance to cows milk following a tummy bug, it is lower in fat but less claggy and allergenic than cows milk

Ps I did the paediasure in tandem with breastfeeding and solids dd was 14 mth to 22 mths when she had it.

ds2 was on soya milk but like epiffany he is on paedisure
it comes in strawberry, chocolate, banana and vanilla flavours.

and you get it orderd in trays of one months supply - nothing else worked for dd but paediasure for 8 mths got her from 0.4 to 9th where she happily sits since coming off it a yr ago.

IS Peadiasure soya based? DS is having Rice Dream (fortified with calcium) and Tiger White since his milk allergy was diagnosed however, he is loosing a lot of weight

He is also allergic to soya, although paediatrician said he wouldn't recommend soya for children (something related to the levels of estrogen). He's been given nutrimigen which he hates

Will be watching this tread with interest...

Our DS drinks Rice Dream with the calcium, was on Wysoy till he was 20 months old then moved to Rice milks. He eats a lot of meat, I think to make up for the loss of calories from the Rice Milks.

Can you try your DS with lots of meat/fish such as lamb at his mealtimes, ( lamb is a low allergenic food) that way he gets a lot of calories and will help with his calorie intake. I do a lamb mince sauce most weeks, also lambs liver and chops.
