Have just accompanied DS1 (age 7 and v allergic to dairy) on 3-day school trip, and was totally overwhelmed at how well the activity centre copes with allergies.
We live in Luxembourg and usually nobody caters to people with allergies (including school canteen) so we have to take food everywhere with us.
Duly turned up with all his food, but they assured me they could adapt lots of the meals for him. I didn't really trust them so started off using our food, but by the end I could see that the cook really did cook things separately for him, and that they were served separately to him by resident nurse, who even disinfected a (clean) icecream container to put his cake in, just to be sure to avoid any contamination.
I am so relieved, especially as they go back to the same centre for a whole week in September - I now feel relaxed about letting him go without me, and they're going to send me the menu a week in advance so we can discuss adaptations and figure out what food I need to send. Can't believe it!!
