Just a quickie about nuts and seeds...

I need to make a packed lunch for my veggie 9 year old ds and one of his faves is fruit and seed flapjacks which I've just made.

However, I've now got second thoughts about adding it to his lunch box. Questions is, if you have a nut allergy, does it usually follow that you'll have a reaction from pumpkin and sunflower seeds?

Thanks!

Is it your DS whos nut allergic?

I don't think the pumpkin and sunflower seeds are related but I do know pumpkin seeds are a known allergen. Not sure about sunflower.

no no no no no! Sorry, I wasn't clear

It's to protect any kids on his school trip who DO have allergies.

Because he has school lunches, I don't take much notice about letters re packed lunches which go something along the lines of packed lunches should not contain any hint of a nut.

HTH...

OK!! You sound lovely btw thinking about others allergies as you are.

Pumpkin is an allergen so if there are DC's with pumpkin allergy they could react.

I would maybe take the flap jack and ask the school if its ok, if not keep it for the journey home. My DS is usually 'starving' after a school trip.

My dd is allergic to hazelnuts and sesame seeds.

thank you! Smile

I will ask first before getting it out (I'm helping on said trip...)

It's just that if it were my kid with a potentially lethal allergy, I'd hope that someone else was just as vigilent as I try to be....
